After Marrakesh our next stop was the Medina of Essaouira, another city surrounded by a wall. There is a very good bus trip to Essaouira from Marrakesh provided by SupraTours.. It is inexpensive and comfortable on a luxury tour bus. The Moroccan views going by the window keep you entertained.
Essaouira is on the ocean so we expected to do some beach time. The city has a reputation to be a little more laid back than Marrakesh. We stayed in a Riad which is the Moroccan type of Bed and Breakfast.

Our African visit to Morocco and South Africa completed our avoidance of the northern hemisphere winter. We left the US in late fall and slowly went back in the seasons until when we visited the Atlas Mountains of Morocco it was spring. The weather and the blooming springtime made us a little homesick. Morocco is an exciting place to visit but I can not envision avoiding New York’s winter there. It is a popular vacation destination for Europeans because it is only a few hour flight and many Europeans go for the weekend. To cross the Atlantic to Africa we would choose South Africa as a winter haven. It is back to Kruger National Park someday. What an experience KNP is.
Its on to Europe.
